Should node_modules be pushed to repo or added to .gitignore?

On a Tecton React project, the node_modules folder adds a TON of overhead to a project, so I'm just curious if that folder needs to be included in a push to the repo, or if Q2 will download all the necessary packages from package.json at build-time and that folder can be added to .gitignore.

q2 downloads and builds from package.json at build time so you can add node_modules to .gitignore https://code.q2developer.com/Q2Antilles/sdk-examples/sdk-tecton-examples/-/blob/master/.gitignore
